HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As the game began, UWRF and Hamline both played very physical and were called for a combined six penalties in the first 20 minutes.
  • During their power play opportunities in the first period, the Falcons totaled four shots. Hamline took advantage of one power play in the first period and registered four shots.
  • Getting on the board first was UW-River Falls with a power play goal by senior Michael Lant. Lant was assisted by freshman Hunter Schneider and captain Christian George. It was Lant's second goal of the season.
  • Under four minutes later it was the Pipers getting on the board. Jesse Kessler took advantage of one of his many shots on the night when he beat Zach Quinn at 10:31 in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. He was assiste by Russ Jordan and Brandon Wahlin.
  • In the second period, the Pipers and Falcons combined for nine penalties.
  • The third period proved to be full of drama with another five penalties and back and forth momentum.
  • Taking the lead back was UWRF at 13:07 when Lant again scored on a crazy series of events. After a shot went off the pipe, players from both sides thought it was originally a goal, but play continued. A few second later, Lant streaked across the slot and found a pass and officially lit the lamp to give UWRF a 2-1 lead. He was assisted by Eddie Matsushima and Kyle Gattelaro.
  • Tying the game up with just 46 seconds to go for Hamline was Mitch Hall who beat Quinn with the Pipers having the 6-5 man advantage after pulling their goalie sending the game to extra time.
  • Neither team could get a goal in overtime, and the Falcons and Pipers settled for the tie.
  • Lant and Gattelaro each had six shots on goal for UWRF. Mitch Kontny added four shots on goal. The Falcons outshot the Pipers 34-28, the Falcons have out shot every team this season.
  • Quinn played the entire game for UWRF saving 26 shots, five big saves coming in overtime to keep his team alive. He is now 1-0-1 as a starting goalie this season.

THE OPPOSITION
  • The Pipers totaled 28 shots in the game, headed by Mitch Hall who fired seven shots on goal, with the second most by a Piper being Jesse Kessler with three.
  • Justin Quale registered the tie for Hamline in 64 minutes and 13 seconds of play. He had 32 saves in the contest, 10 in each period and two in overtime.
  • Hamline was called for 11 penalties in the game for a total of 22 minutes in the box.
  • The Pipers were 1-6 on power play opportunities in the game and split the face offs with UWRF 39-39.
