Falcons Dominate Pipers in Total Team Effort

St. Paul, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – With 13 team three pointers, the UW-River Falls men's basketball team shot 72 percent from the floor in the second half, and dominated the Hamline Pipers on the road by a score of 89-59.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • An 11-2 run to end the first half, the Falcons would never relinquish their double-digit lead for the rest of the game and had 14 different players score in the ball game.
  • UWRF quickly controlled the tempo of the game out of the gates. Alex Herink knocked down an and-one to help the Falcons run out to an 8-4 lead.
  • Hamline would hang around for a good part of the first half. Keeping the Falcons within four points in the first seven minutes.
  • Matt Timlin finally gave the Falcons some breathing room when he knocked down a three point shot with 13 minutes to go in the first half to lead 14-8.  
  • The three point ball would help the Falcons establish their offensive in the first half. In a stretch of the half, three out of four buckets came from beyond the arc and the Falcons held a two point lead with 6:26 to go in the first half.
  • UWRF would use an 11-0 run in a two and a half minute span to expand their lead to 13 points with 1:42 to go in the first half. In the run, four different Falcons scored including Garret Pearson, Clay Seifert, Brennan Witt, and Herink.
  • At the half the Falcons led by 11 points, with Pearson leading the Falcons scoring with eight.
  • To begin the second half, the Falcons and Pipers would exchange buckets evenly for the first four minutes with the lead still 11 for UWRF.
  • Then scoring six straight points capped off by a Witt layup, the Falcons were in full control, up by 17 points with 13:37 to go in the game.
  • The Pipers would keep pace for a large portion of the second half, but unable to break through the double-digit lead the Falcons had established, never getting closer than 11 points.
  • With 6:47 to go, the UW-River Falls offense broke loose. A 20-4 run over a five minute period, with three shots coming from beyond the arc, the Falcons had officially ran away with the game up 81-54 with 2:36 to go.
  • The largest lead of the game came with the final bucket of the contest when Austin Heidecker connected on an and-one, putting the lead up to 31 points.  
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • A season-high 14 different Falcons scored in the contest. Led by Pearson's 12 points on 4-7 shooting and eight rebounds.
  • Eight different Falcons would register a three pointer in the game. Austin Moldenhauer connected on a team-high three shots from distance.  
  • The other double-figure scorer for the Falcons was guard Matt Keller who was efficient in his 17 minutes, scoring 11 points on 3-4 shooting and adding four rebounds.
  • Four other players for UWRF would have seven or more points in the game. Starters Grant Erickson and Herink were among those with seven points each.
  • As a team, the Falcons shot 31-55 (56.4 percent) from the field. The 56.4 percent is the highest since the Falcons shot 58.7 percent against UW-Superior on January 28, 2015.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Issac Brooks had an efficient night for the Pipers. He scored 14 points on 7-11 shooting in 34 minutes.
  • Hamline was 22-58 (37.9 percent) from the floor, and 4-21 (19 percent) from distance.
  • Hamline had four different players score in double-figures. Notably was Jay Betts off the bench for the Pipers with 12 points, four rebounds, and four steals.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Just one game remains in 2016 for the UW-River Falls men's basketball team, and that is St. Olaf (3-4, 1-2 MIAC). The Falcons will tip off against the Oles on December 30th at 7 p.m. at Karges Center.
