CLERMONT, Fla. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls Falcons Softball team opened up the PFX Games in Clermont, Florida by going 2-0.
Game 1 Vs: North Park University To start out the day the Falcons took on the Vikings from North Park University. The Falcons took the win by a tally of 13-0.
The Falcons started off the scoring in the first inning when they scored eight runs.
Sarah Sorensen tripled for the first hit of the game and then scored on an error by the catcher on
Erin Ralph's groundout to the pitcher, which also advanced
Katie Thompson to second and
Aiyana Ledwein to third.
Ali Murray walked with the bases loaded to bring in Ledwein.
Katie Thompson scored when a pitch hit
Kamyn Peterson-Rucker with the bases loaded.
Abby Veloske singled in
Erin Ralph to make the score 4-0 Falcons.
Ali Murray scored when
Hannah Zurn was walked with the bases loaded.
Sarah Sorensen reached on an error by the second baseman, which allowed Peterson-Rucker to score. The third walk of the game with the bases loaded resulted in
Abby Veloske scoring for the Falcons. The eighth run of the first inning came on a passed ball, which allowed
Hannah Zurn to score. The Falcons brought 13 batters to the plate in the first inning resulting in eight unearned runs on three hits and four walks.
The Falcons would strike again in the fourth inning when
Emma Steiner doubled in
Abby Veloske, and
Maddie Studnicka. Sorensen doubled in
Hannah Zurn to push the score to 11-0 in favor of the Falcons. Finishing out the scoring for the Falcons was
Katie Thompson who hit the first homerun of the season for the Falcons, scoring Sorensen.
Payton Speckel took the mound for the Falcons and pitched all five innings. Speckel gave up no runs on just two hits. She also struck out five batters in route to her second win on the season.
Game 2 Vs: Anderson University The Falcons battled with the Ravens of Anderson University in a low scoring affair in which only two runs would be scored, both by the Falcons who took game two on the day by a score of 2-0.
Toeing the rubber in game two for the Falcons was
Michelle LaCasse. LaCasse went seven full innings and gave up just three hits total, while striking out five Ravens' batters.
River Falls scored the first run of the game in the first inning when
Shannan Borchardt doubled in
Aiyana Ledwein.
Scoring the games final run was
Katie Thompson when she came across on a passed ball.
The Falcons moved to 4-6 on the season with both wins, and will play again Monday Afternoon when they take on Becker College at 1:00 P.M. and then they will play in-state foe Concordia University at 3:00 P.M.
