Alex Herink was again at the hands of a game winning shot for the streaking UW-River Falls men's basketball team in a 69-68 thrilling victory over UW-Stevens Point.

WHAT HAPPENED
- On the Falcons final possession, Herink drove to the hoop and threw up a shot with contact and connected with 1.8 seconds left on the clock. Herink then intentionally missed the ensuing free throw and the Pointers were unable to get a shot off in time.
- Early in the first half it was clear the game would be a grind it out type with neither team taking a two possession lead until about seven minutes into the game with UWRF up 13-9.
- UW-Stevens Point would not back down to the No. 7 Falcons by scoring five straight points to take the lead with 11:10 to go in the half.
- The Pointers took control at the 4:07 point of the first half with back-to-back three pointers and grew a lead of five points with 3:32 to go in the half.
- Herink tied the ball game up late in the half with a triple to make the score 32-32, and the half would end tied at 33 with Devin Buckley leading UWRF with 10 points.
- Clay Seifert sank a three pointer to open the second half, and the Falcons looked poised to take control. Herink hit a three two minutes later to give UWRF a four point advantage.
- UWSP responded time and time again during the game and took the lead back numerous times, most notably on an and-one by Ethan Bublitz that would lead to UWSP leading for the next four and a half minutes.
- Austin Moldenhauer regained the lead for UWRF with a triple at 8:14, and it looked as if UWRF would take control at home.
- For the next eight minutes UWRF held off the Pointers, but with just 13 seconds to go, UWSP found themselves at the free throw line down by one. Delmore sank both of his free throws, and the Pointers closed in on the upset.
- Herink would sink the shot on the next possession, and the Falcons were able to hang on for their 12th straight victory, the longest since 2010-11 when the Falcons won 15 straight, which is the program record.
IN-DEPTH LOOK
- Garret Pearson scored the most points since his career-high 30 point game against Carleton with 18 against the Pointers. He shot 7-13 from the floor and had five rebounds.
- Herink scored 13 on the night on an efficient 5-8 shooting and a pair of three pointers. He had two big blocks in the game, and also grabbed three rebounds.
- Buckley finished with 12 points in the game in 23 minutes, and shot 4-5 from the free throw line.
- Brennan Witt and Moldenhauer led the Falcon bench with nine and six points respectively on a combined 6-8 shooting.
- UWRF as a team was 26-48 (54.2 percent) from the floor in the win, their second straight game shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
- UWRF shot a season-high 50 percent from the three point line going 7-14 as a team.
- The Falcons dominated the rebound battle in the game with an advantage of 37-18.
THE OPPOSITION
- Delmore was the leader for the Pointers in the game, he finished with 19 points including his two huge free throws late to put UWSP on top. He finished 7-8 from the charity stripe.
- Drew Fredrickson came off the bench for the Pointers and had 13 points on 5-8 shooting and Bublitz finished with 11 points for UWSP as well.
- The Pointers shot 23-49 (46.9 percent) from the floor, and sank eight three pointers in the game. The team was efficient from the free throw line finishing 14-18 (77.8 percent).
LOOKING AHEAD
The No. 7 Falcons will take their 12-game winning streak to La Crosse, Wisconsin in a matchup with last season's regular season champion Eagles. The tip against UW-La Crosse (9-6, 1-3 WIAC) is set for 7 p.m. on January 18
th at Mitchell Hall Gymnasium.
