Record Shooting Night Powers No. 5 Falcons Over Eagles

La Crosse, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – In their 13th straight victory, the UW-River Falls men's basketball team used the best shooting performance in program history (64.7 percent) in a 91-76 road victory over UW-La Crosse.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons led by as much as 16 in the first half, but the Eagles cut it to eight in the second half before the Falcons used a 10-2 run to ice the game in the second half.
  • UWRF opened up the game connecting on 10 of their first 12 shots from the field, and owned a 25-14 lead with 11:10 to go in the first half.
  • In the opening 10 field goals, Garret Pearson scored eight points, Devin Buckley scored seven, and Alex Herink had six as the theme for the Falcons offense was beginning to form.
  • Taking control in the first half, the Falcons used an 8-2 run to grow their lead to 14 points with 7:28 to go in the half, and at the break UWRF led 47-34.
  • To start the second half UWRF held on to a double digit lead for the first six minutes. The Eagles came within eight points with 13:55 to go in the game, but never got any closer for the rest of the contest due to a 10-2 run the put the Falcons up 16 points with 8:17 to go in the game.
  • UWRF would coast to the win, and extend their winning streak to 13 dating back to November 22 when their streak began against Carthage College.         
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Herink nearly had a perfect night of basketball. With a 10-10 performance from the free throw line and 5-6 from the floor Herink finished with 23 points, his only shot missed was a three pointer.  
  • Pearson was just about as perfect as Herink going 10-11 from the floor and finishing with a double-double with 10 rebounds.
  • The Falcons finished their record performance from the floor 33-51 (64.7 percent). The closest field goal percentage since 2001 was back on November 22nd, 2003 when the Falcons shot 62.9 percent from the floor.
  • As a team the Falcons were 10-17 (58.8 percent) from the three point line and 15-17 (88.2 percent) from the charity stripe.
  • Devin Buckley had himself quite a night as well. Going 7-11 from the floor Buckley finished with 18 points and two assists.
  • Grant Erickson added another zero turnover performance to his resume this season, his fifth such game.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Every one of the Eagles who scored in the game, finished with over 10 points. Zach Schradle was the leader with 18 points on 7-15 and added 10 rebounds to his game.
  • Clint Rihn and Tanner Bruchs each had 13 points for UW-La Crosse, with Milton Cummings having 12 off the bench.
  • As a team the Eagles shot 30-73 (41.1 percent) from the floor and connected on nine of their shots from beyond the arc.  
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UW-River Falls will continue to play on the road with the Titans playing host to the visiting Falcons. UW-Oshkosh (10-6, 3-2 WIAC) took two of three games last season against the Falcons, with UWRF losing both games in Oshkosh.
