No. 5 Falcons Cruise to 79-57 Road Win over Titans

Oshkosh, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – In a wire-to-wire win, the UW-River Falls men's basketball team extended their winning streak to 14 games with a convincing 79-57 win over UW-Oshkosh on the road.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Garret Pearson scored 17 points in the first half, and the senior forward notched his second straight double-double in the 22 point win in which the Falcons did not trail.
  • UWRF eased their way into the game, but finally extended their lead with an 11-4 run to lead 21-10 with 8:14 to go in the first half. Pearson would score seven of those 11 points.
  • UWRF connected on six first-half three pointers. Alex Herink and Matt Timlin hit back-to-back threes to put UWRF up 16 points, the largest lead of the half.
  • The Falcons took a 39-24 lead into the halftime break. The Falcons defense held the Titans to just 29 percent from the floor in the first half.
  • UW-Oshkosh made a push in the early part of the second half using a 10-1 run to bring the score to 47-41 with 14:19 to go in the game.
  • With momentum on the Titans side, the No. 5 Falcons exploded with a 13-0 in a span of four minutes. The Falcons then held an advantage of 60-41 with 10:01 to go in the game.
  • In the remaining time the Falcons would coast to their 14th straight win, and move to a full two game lead in the WIAC with the buzzer sounding with the Falcons on top 79-57.          
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Alex Herink joined Pearson with a double-double. Herink finished with 15 points, 12 in the second half, and 10 rebounds.   
  • Pearson would finish with 22 points on 9-19 shooting and add four assists.
  • Devin Buckley had an efficient night from the floor. He shot 6-8 from the floor and finished with 17 points.
  • Brennan Witt scored eight points off the bench for UWRF. The Falcons bench combined to score 21 points in the game.
  • As a team UWRF shot 29-60 (48.3 percent) from the floor and sank nine threes in the game. From the free throw line the Falcons shot an impressive 12-14 (85.7 percent).
  • On the glass the Falcons held the advantage 41-31 over the Titans.

THE OPPOSITION
  • No Titan player scored in double-figures in the game. Brett Wittchow was the top scorer with nine points and had four rebounds.  
  • Taylor Jensen and David Vlotho scored eight points. Ben Boots, Max Schebel, and Jack Flynn scored seven points each.
  • As a team UW-Oshkosh shot 22-58 (37.9 percent) and nailed five three pointers in 18 attempts.  
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UW-River Falls returns home after two straight games on the road. The game against UW-Stout (12-5, 3-3 WIAC) will be on January 25th with a start time of 7 p.m.
