HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The difference in the game came in the second period where the Falcons broke a 2-2 tie by scoring two goals in about two minutes of action and then held on in the third period for the victory.
  • UW-River Falls raced out to start the game and grabbed a 1-0 with a goal just 19 seconds in on the first shot of the game by senior Ryan Doner.
  • The Pipers would match that quick goal with a goal of their own at 1:59 on the power play that would tie the game 1-1 early in the first period.
  • The first period proved to be one of the most engaging between the two teams. The Falcons had three power play opportunities and the Pipers had two changes. The Pipers goal was the only power play goal converted.
  • In the second period, Blake Busch broke the tie with his first goal of the season at 6:52. His goal was assisted by Eddie Matsushima.
  • Hamline would once again tie the game with a goal at 13:45 by Dan Bartkowiak from the point. His goal was assisted by Jesse Kessler and Mitch Hall.
  • A minute later the Falcons found themselves on the power play after a slashing penalty at 14:56. Just six seconds later Brian Drapluk scored and gave the Falcons their 16th power play goal of the season to take a 3-2 lead.
  • On the very next shot for the Falcons, the lamp was lit once again. This goal was netted by Taylor Burden right in front of the net. His goal was assisted by Joe Drapluk and Ryan Gotelaere.
  • In the second period, Vorva's goaltending helped the Falcons grow their lead. His 10 saves, three of those on a penalty kill, kept the Falcons in the driver's seat.
  • In the third period the Falcons held on to their two goal lead. Vorva made nine saves and the Falcons did not commit a penalty in the 20 minutes of action.
  • Matsushima scored an empty net goal at 18:28 in the third period and sealed their victory. Danny Hamburg and Doner were credited with the assists.
  • Joe Drapluk was the leader in shots in the game with five. Burden added four shots with his one goal. Four other Falcons had two shots each in the game with the team finishing with 24.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Hamline scored their two goals on 30 shots in the game. 11 of their shots came in the second period. Jesse Kessler led the team with five shots.
  • John Sellie-Hanson saved 19 shots in the game for the Pipers.
