Women's Hockey Sets New Program Record With 14th Straight Win

St. Paul, MN (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls women's hockey team traveled to take on the Tommies of St. Thomas on Tuesday night. The Falcons scored three goals in the first period and rolled to their 14th straight victory 5-1. The 14th straight win set the new record for the program's longest winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Angie Hall had another strong performance for the Falcons. She allowed 1 goal and had a total of 27 saves.
  • The first goal of the game came at 11:34 for the Falcons to make the score 1-0. Dani Kocina scored the goal and was assisted by Dani Sibley.
  • Shortly after, Hailey Herdine scored to put the Falcons up 2-0. The goal came at 13:18 in the first period and was assisted by Jessie Andersen.
  • Heidi Hannula received a penalty on the Tommies at 15:29 for hooking to put the Falcons on power play.
  • The Falcons were able to score on the power play to make the score 3-0. Bella Wagner scored the goal at 16:34 in the first period. The goal was assisted by Dani Sibley and Erica Schramel.
  • Carina Randazzo received a penalty early on in the second period for checking. The Falcons were able to kill of the Tommies' power play and keep the score 3-0.
  • Ellie Tabaka received a penalty for holding at 9:41 to put the Falcons back on power play.
  • Carly Moran scored the second power play goal of the night to make the score 4-0 at 10:10 in the second period. Paige Johnson and Haley Nielsen assisted the goal.
  • Carina Randazzo received her second penalty of the game for hooking at 10:42. The Falcons were able to keep the Tommies from scoring.
  • Dani Sibley scored at 14:34 to score the Falcons final goal to make the score 5-0. Carly Moran assisted the goal.
  • Dani Cooper received a Tommie penalty at 9:32 for tripping. The Tommies were able to keep the score 5-0.
  • Kathryn Larson received a penalty for hooking at 15:09 to put the Falcons on penalty kill. The Tommies were unable to score.
  • The Tommies were able to put up one point at the end of the game to make the final score 5-1. Erika Bjorkman scored the goal and Leah Schwartzman assisted it.
 
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Mackenzie Torpy played in net for the Tommies. She allowed 5 goals and had a total of 28 shots on net.
  • Erika Bjorkman scored the only Tommie goal of the night at 18:11. Leah Schwartzman assisted it.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will take on the UW-Superior yellow jackets this weekend. The Falcons will play at home on Friday, January 27th at 7:05pm. The Falcons will head to Superior, Wisconsin on Saturday, January 28th for their second WIAC game of the weekend against the yellow jackets at 2pm.
