Superior, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls women's hockey team traveled to Superior, Wisconsin to take on the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior Saturday afternoon. The Falcons got two late third period goals by
Dani Sibley and
Haley Nielsen to get the 2-1 victory over the Yellowjackets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emily Heid opened the scoring for the Yellowjackets at the 3:39 mark of the first period.
- Both teams would exchange power plays in the first period with Kaleigh Martinson of UW-Superior being called for high sticking at the 6:17 mark and Jessie Andersen being called for interference at the 15:08 mark. Neither team could take advantage of the power play and the score remained 1-0.
- At 19:36 of the 1st period Dani Sibley and Leah Elledge were called for coincendental minors, Sibley for high sticking, Elledge for roughing.
- The first period ended with the Yellowjackets holding a 1-0 lead.
- The second period started with 4 on 4 hockey until the matching penalties to Sibley and Elledge expired.
- The Falcons would go on the power at the 3:06 mark of the period when Jessica Marsalla was called for hooking. The Falcons would not score on with the man advantage and were still down 1-0.
- Carina Randazzo was called for charging at the 7:00 minute mark of the period, but the Falcon penalty killers would not allow a shot to get on net during the whole power play and kept the score at 1-0.
- Sam Westgaard would send the Falcons back to the power play when she was called for tripping at the 11:13 mark of the period. The Falcons would not be able to tie the game on the power play but did generate a couple of good quality scoring chances.
- The second period would end with the Falcons still down 1-0.
- The Falcons out shot the Yellowjackets 10-6 in the second period.
- The third period began with the Falcons putting pressure on the Yellowjackets but could not tie the game.
- Dani Sibley finally broke through for the Falcons when she scored to tie the game at 1 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. The goal was Sibley's 23rd of the season.
- The Falcons would take the lead for good with 31 seconds left in the period when Haley Nielsen fired a shot to the back of the net to put the Falcons up 2-1. The goal was Nielsen's 9th goal of the season. She was assisted on the goal by Carly Moran and Dani Sibley.
- Tatyana Delaittre got the start in net for the Falcons and she recorded 18 saves to get the win.
- Bella Wagner led the way in the face off circle winning 10 of the 13 draws she took.
THE OPPOSITION
- Kim Kobar made 25 saves in net for the Yellowjackets.
- Emily Heid scored the lone goal for UW-Superior.
- Hannah Currin won 11 face offs for the Yellowjackets.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Falcons will have the next 13 days off before a weekend showdown with UW-Eau Claire Feb. 10 and 11th.
- On Feb. 10th the Falcons will play at UW-Eau Claire, with puck drop set for 7pm.
- On Feb. 11th the Falcons will return to Hunt Arena to host UW-Eau Claire in a rare 7pm game on Saturday night.
