Women's Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of Concordia

River Falls, WI -(uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls women's hockey team played the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers for the second time on Saturday, January 7th. Dani Sibley had two goals for the Falcons and led the team to a 4-1 win to end the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tatyana Delaittre played in goal for the Falcons. She made 16 saves on the night and only allowed one goal in the first period.
  • The Cobbers had a penalty early on in the first period. Jess Nelson received a penalty for hooking at 5:43. The Cobbers were able to defend the Falcons and keep the score 0-0.
  • Jess Nelson scored her third goal of the weekend to put the Cobbers up 1-0. The goal was scored at 10:28 in the first period and was assisted by Amber Schaack and Ellen Rethwisch.
  • Shortly after, Amelia Amon received a penalty for hooking at 12:18 to put the Cobbers back on penalty kill.
  • Amy Auran had a penalty at 17:25 for crosschecking to put the Falcons on 5-4 disadvantage.
  • At 18:11, Ellen Rethwisch received a penalty for slashing to make it 4 against 4.  Both teams were unable to score to end the first period 1-0.
  • Early on in the second period, Victoria Holman received a penalty for tripping at 2:45.
  • Jessie Anderson received a penalty shortly after for interference at 5:06.
  • At 8:39, the Cobbers received another penalty for hooking to put the Falcons on the power play.
  • Lydia Wagner scored her first goal of the season to put tie the game up 1-1 at 8:43 in the second period. Erica Schramel and Jilayne Gilbert assisted the goal.
  • Dani Sibley scored her first goal of the night at 10:18 of the second period to make the score 2-1. The goal was unassisted.
  • In the third period, Haley Nielsen received a penalty for crosschecking at 5:35.
  • Ashley Effertz scored at 9:55 to make the score 3-1. Dani Sibley assisted the goal.
  • At 11:49, Dani Sibley scored her second goal of the night to make the final score 4-1. Carly Moran and Hailey Herdine assisted the goal.
  • Jilayne Gilbert had a penalty for interference at 13:21 in the third period.
  
THE OPPOSITION
  • Andrea Klug played in goal for the Cobbers. She had a total of 32 shots on net and 4 goals allowed.
  • Jess Nelson scored her third goal of the weekend to tally the Cobbers only point. The goal was assisted by Amber Schaack and Ellen Rethwisch.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons have three games this upcoming week. They will play against the St. Norbert's Knights on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in De Pere, Wisconsin at 4pm. The Falcons will also travel to Ashland, Wisconsin to take on Northland College on January 13th and January 14th.
