Herink Scores 26 in Falcons Loss

WHEATON, Ill. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team suffered a tough road loss to Baldwin-Wallace by a final score of 68-65 in the opening game of the Lee Pfund Classic hosted by Wheaton College inside King Arena.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Baldwin-Wallace jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first half when Battle stole the ball and scored the fast-break layup at the 12:40 mark. 
  • The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to 16-12 when Matt Keller hit a jumper at 10:12.  
  • The Yellow Jackets answered with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 25-12.
  • River Falls came back with a 14-8 run to cut the lead down to 33-26 when Henrik knocked down a jumper at 3:00.   
  • Baldwin Wallace outscored the Falcons 3-2 down the stretch and led 36-28 at halftime.
  • In the first half, the Falcons were led by Alex Herink with 13 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor.  Logan Halvorson had five points off the bench and was 2-4 from the floor.  
  • The Falcons opened the second half on an 13-3 run to take a 41-39 lead on a jumper by Austin Heidecker at the 14:27 mark. 
  • The Yellow Jackets answered with an 8-0 run to take a 47-41 lead on a jumper by Kuhn at 12:13.
  • The Falcons responded with a 11-0 run to take a 52-47 lead when Logan Halvorson buried a three-pointer at 8:01 mark. 
  • Baldwin Wallace went on a 13-7 run to take s 60-59 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets outscored River Falls 8-6 down the stretch to pick up the 68-65.
  • Alex Herink led the team again in points for the second half with 13.  He was 6-7 from the free throw line.  Clay Seifert was 3-6 from the floor and scored eight points in the second half.   
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Alex Herink had a game high 26 points as he led the Falcons offensively.  He was 7-18 from the floor, 2-5 from the 3-point arc and 10-12 from the free throw line.  He also accumulated six rebounds.
  • Brennan Witt was 3-9 from the floor for nine points and led the Falcons with nine rebounds. 
  • Logan Halvorson scored eight points for the Falcons off the bench shooting 3-5 from the floor and 2-3 from the arc. 
  • Matt Keller was 5-10 from the floor and was 3-6 from the arc.
  • Clay Seifert had eight points and five assists.
  • The Falcons shot 22-55 (40 percent) from the floor in the game and 8-17 (47.1 percent) from the arc. UWRF took care of business at the free throw line going 13-16 (81.3 percent).
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by Jay Battle and Cam Kuhn who each had 23 points.  Battle was 8-14 from the floor and 6-10 on 3-pointers.  Kuhn was 10-16 in field goals and 2-3 from the arc.  He also had seven rebounds. 
  • Mike Kaminski had six points and was 2-7 from the floor. 
  • The Yellow Jackets shot 26-60 (43.3 percent) from the floor and 13-34 (38.2 percent) from the three point line.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons now 1-1 on the season play in the consolation game against DePauw University at 5:30 p.m.
