Men's Basketball Stay Perfect at Home

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team had four of their five starters with double digit points as they beat Carthage College at home 77-71 Tuesday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Clay Seifert started the game with a layup and got the Falcons on the board first. 
  • The Red Men took their only lead of the night at 14:15 when they pulled ahead 8-7 but the Falcons quickly answered with and 11-0 run that would put them up by ten. 
  • Carthage scratched back and got within five at 6:01 when Brad Perry dunked it over the Falcon defense.
  • Devin Buckley answered with a three pointer and Brennan Witt followed it with a pair of free throws.
  • The Falcons finished out the half with a 7-1 run and entered the halftime break with a 32-23 advantage. 
  • In the first half, Brennan Witt connected for ten points on 3-6 shooting.  He also added four rebounds.
  • Carthage took charge in the second half cutting their deficit to three at the 11:38 mark.  The Falcons called a timeout to regroup and quickly came back with a 14-3 run to put them back up by 14.
  • With 5:17 remaining in the half Brennan Witt hit a three to start the Falcons on an eight point run that gave them their biggest lead of the night at seventeen. 
  • Carthage responded with a 12-2 run that got them within seven points of the Falcons. 
  • With 26 seconds remaining in the game, Derek Mason hit a three that gave Carthage some hope but the Falcons finished it out scoring four more to give them the win. 
  • Alex Herink was 4-7 from the floor and 3-4 from beyond the arc in the second half.  Brennan Witt picked up six of his eleven points second half points from the charity stripe. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • The Falcons had four players, all starters, in double digit point totals.  Alex Herink led the way with 23 points on 7-2 shooting.  He was 4-6 from beyond the arc and 5-7 from the line. 
  • Brennan Witt had 21 points and 11 rebounds.  He was 5-10 from the floor and was an impressive 9-9 from the line.
  • Devin Buckley was 4-8 from the floor and 4-4 from the line for 14 points. 
  • Clay Seifert finished with 10 points on 4-7 shooting, and gathered three rebounds.
  • The Falcons ended the game 23-52 (44.2 percent) from the floor. UWRF shot 9-24 (37.5 percent) from the three point line and 22-25 (88 percent) from the free throw line.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Jordan Thomas had a game high 28 points on 9-18 shooting.  He was 7-9 from the line and 3-9 from beyond the arc.  He also added eight rebounds.
  • Brad Kruse shot 6-11 from the floor and accounted for 17 points.
  • The Red Men shot 23-57 (40.4 percent) from the floor. They were 8-32 (25 percent) from beyond the arc, witch seven of those coming in the second half. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will remain in the comfort of their own gym in their next game. Carleton comes to town to take on the Falcons on Saturday December 2nd at 5 p.m.
