Men's Hockey Drops Conference Opener

River Falls, Wis.  (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls Men's hockey team lost to UW-Stevens Point 6-1 at Hunt Arena Friday night. The Falcons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Peter Karavos found the net in the 1st period, but the Pointers would go on to score 6 unanswered goals, 3 goals in the second and third periods to pull away.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-STEVENS POINT
  • The Falcons scored the first goal of the game when Mitchell Vanderburg drove hard to the net and his shot bounced off the Point goaltender and Peter Karavos put home the rebound in the top part of the net.
  • Zach Quinn kept the Pointers off the scoreboard in the 1st period making 14 saves for the Falcons.
  • In the second period, the Pointers took advantage of a Power Play as Steven Quagliata scored to tie the game at 1-1.
  • A little while later the Pointers took the lead as Brennan Miller punched one in for a 2-1 lead for UW-Stevens Point.
  • 13 seconds later Baxter Kanter flipped one on net, that some how made it through a mass of bodies to give UW-Stevens Point a 3-1 lead.
  • The Pointers would score three more times in the 3rd period to pull away from the Falcons on goals by Colin Raver, Willem Nong-Lambert, and Carter Roo.
  • Zach Quinn was pulled after Carter Roo's goal made it 6-1, and Michael Hughes would finish out the contest.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • The Pointers went 2-3 on the Power Play for the night, while shutting out the Falcons Power Play who went 0-3.
  • Carter Roo, Willem Nong-Lambert, and Steven Quagliata had a goal and an assist for the Pointers.
  • Max Milosek made 18 saves in net.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons men's hockey team returns to action tomorrow night as they face UW-Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  The puck drops at 7:05 PM.
