Men's Hockey Falls to UW-Eau Claire on the Road

Eau Claire, Wis.  (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team was on the road Saturday night, traveling to WIAC rival UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds scored early in the first period and went on to beat the Falcons 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-EAU CLAIRE
  • The Blugolds jumped out to an early lead when Jake Bresser found the back of the net just over one minute into the first period.
  • The Falcons would get 8 shots on goal in the period and find themselves down 1-0 after the period.
  • The second period began with the Falcons spending most of their time in the offensive end. They fired 4 shots at the Eau Claire goaltender but he stopped them all. The sustained pressure did result in the Falcons going on the power play when the Blugolds were called for holding.
  • The Falcons would get more pucks to the net on the power play but could not get one in the net.
  • Blake Anderson was called for holding at the 18:52 mark of the period and Blugolds would take advantage of the power play to take a 2-0 lead late in the second period.
  • The Blugolds would add another power play goal in the third go up 3-0 and an even strength goal late in the period to seal the 4-0 win.
  • The Falcons tallied 21 shots on goal on the night, led by Eddie Matsushima and Mitchell Vanderburg with 4 each.
  • Zach Quinn made 28 saves in net for the Falcons.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • The Blugolds were led by Jacob Wolter who had a goal and an assist on the night.
  • David Johnson stopped all 21 Falcon shots to get the victory in net for the Blugolds.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons return home next weekend to host games on Friday and Saturday against Lawrence University. Puck drop for both games is set for 7:05 p.m. in Hunt Arena.
