Men's Basketball Takes Down St. Olaf

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team won their eighth game in a row defeating St. Olaf College 72-49 on the road Friday at the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic
 

THE RUNDOWN

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The first part of the half the Lions kept the Falcons within reach only allowing them to lead by a couple points. 
  • The Lions tied it up 21-21 with 7:23 remaining in the first half but it would be the last time the Lions would keep it that close. 
  • The Falcons went on a 15-1 point run and Devin Buckley finished the half with a three point shot that led the Falcons into the halftime break with a 13 point lead.
  • Alex Herink and Brennan Witt each had nine points in the first half.  The Falcons shot 48.4 percent from the floor on 15-31 shooting. 
  • The Falcons took their double digit lead into the second half and ran with it getting themselves ahead as much as 22 points
  • The Falcons finished out the second half with a four point run to get the 23 point win. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Alex Herink was 7-14 for nineteen points.  He was 4-5 from the line and added six rebounds. 
  • Brennan Witt was the only other Falcon to get double digit points scoring 15 points on 7-10 shooting.  He finished the night with a double double collecting ten rebounds.    
  • Eleven players came off the bench for a combined 27 points. 
  • As a team, the Falcons were 26-58 (44.8 percent) from the floor and shot 13-15 (86.7 percent) from the charity stripe. 

THE OPPOSITION
  • The Lions were led by Dominic Bledsoe who had eleven points on 3-7 shooting from the floor. 
  • Robert Tobroxen was the second leading Lion scorer with seven points and seven rebounds.
  • The Lions shot 16-45 (35.6 percent) from the floor. They made seven three-points shots and were 10-16 (62.5 percent) from the free throw line
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons, who are the defending conference champions, begin WIAC conference play Wednesday January 3rd against UW-Stevens Point.  Start of game is set for 7 p.m.
