Women's Hockey Rolls to 5-1 Victory Over UW-Superior

River Falls, WI (uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls women's hockey team hosted UW-Superior in a WIAC playoff matchup at Hunt Arena Friday night. Five different Falcons scored inlcuding sophomore Izzy Brosseau with her first career goal as they beat the Yellowjackets 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons came out in the first period and dominated the first 6 minutes of the game and drew a penalty for tripping on UW-Superior's Molly Shelton at the 6:11 mark of the period.
  • Hailey Herdine scored on the ensuing power play to put the Falcons up 1-0. She was assisted on the goal by Dani Sibley and Lydia Wagner. The goal was her 10th on the season.
  • Ashely Effertz was called for interference at the 7:55 mark of the period. The Falcons would kill the off the ensuing power play by not allowing a single shot on net.
  • The Falcons pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 18:21 mark of the period when Dani Sibley scored on a re-direct in front of the Yellowjacket net. She was assisted on the goal by Izzy Brosseau. The goal was Sibley's 25th of the season.
  • The first period ended with the Falcons up 2-0, the Falcons out shot the Yellowjackets 8-6 in the period.
  • Jessie Andersen was called for checking at the 3:58 mark of the second period. The Yellowjackets would need 20 seconds of power play time to cut the Falcon lead in half at 2-1. Mikayla Goodin scored for the Yellowjackets. She was assisted on the goal by Sarah Fjeran. 
  • The Yellowjackets and Falcons would trade 2 power plays each over the rest of the period but neither team could score and the second period ended with the Falcons clinging to a 1 goal lead.
  • The Falcons out shot the Yellowjackets 15-5 in the second period.
  • The third period would begin with the Falcons having to kill off two Yellowjacket power plays to keep their 1 goal lead.
  • At the 12:35 mark of the period Paige Johnson would score her 5th goal of the season to put the Falcons up 3-1. She was assisted on the goal by Dani Sibley.
  • The Falcons would add to their lead just over a minute later when Carly Moran would fire a shot to the back of the net for her 20th goal of the season. She was assisted on the goal by Paige Johnson
  • Three minutes later Izzy Brosseau would score her first career goal to put the Falcons up 5-1. She was assisted on the goal by Jessie Andersen and Jillayne Gilbert.
  • The Falcons scored 3 goals on 9 shots in the third out shooting the Yellowjackets for the third straight period.
  • Angie Hall made 15 saves in net for the Falcons to pick up the win for the Falcons.
THE OPPOSITION
  • Kim Kobar made 27 saves in net for the Yellowjackets.
  • Mikayla Goodin scored the only goal of the night for UW-Superior.
