Sibley Scores Two as the Falcons Roll into the WIAC Championship

River Falls, WI (uwrfsports.com)- The UW-River Falls women's hockey team took on UW-Superior in game two of a WIAC Playoff series on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. Dani Sibley broke the school record for goals in a season by scoring her 26th and 27th goals of the year and Angie Hall collected her school record 8th shutout of the season as the Falcons advanced to the WIAC Championship game with a 3-0 win over UW-Superior.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons got on the scoreboard early in the first when Haley Nielsen fired a shot to the back of the net at the 4:37 mark of the 1st period. ????She was assisted on the goal by Dani Sibley and Hailey Herdine. The goal was Nielsen's 10th of the season.
  • The Falcons dominated the rest of the period and it resulted in the Falcons getting a power play at the 17:38 mark when Mandy Tomlinson was called for hooking. During the Falcon power play Saige Parick was called for holding Dani Sibley in the corner and put the Falcons on a 5 on 3 power play.  
  • Dani Sibley would score on the ensuing power play with 5 seconds left in the first period to put the Falcons up 2-0. The goal was her 26th of the season and she was assisted on the goal by Haley Nielsen and Carly Moran.
  • The Falcons out shot the Yellowjackets 10-4 in the first period.
  • The Falcons began the second period sustaing pressure in the offensive end but were unable to push their lead to 3.
  • At the 7:51 mark of the period Dani Sibley was called for checking and sent the Yellowjackets to the power play. The Falcons did not allow a single shot on net during the power play and kept their lead at 2-0.
  • After the period the Falcons dominated the rest of the period, keeping the puck in the offensive end and firing multiple shots at the Yellowjacket goal with a couple hitting the post, but could not push their lead to 3. 
  • Emily Heid of UW-Superior was called for tripping at the 19:51 mark of the period to put the Falcons on the power play to begin the third period.
  • The Falcons out shot the Yellowjackets 9-3 in the second period.
  • The third period began with the Falcons on the power play, but the Falcons could not get anything going on the power play and the score stayed at 2-0.
  • Dani Sibley broke the school record at the 3:30 mark of the period when she scored her 27th goal of the season. She was assisted on the goal by Haley Herdine.
  • Both teams traded power plays the rest of the period but Angie Hall stopped all shots and gave the Falcons the 3-0 lead.
  • Angie Hall stopped all 17 shots enroute to her 8th shut out of the season. 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Kaleigh Martinson led the Yellowjackets with 5 shots on net.
  • Kim Kobar made 28 saves in net for the Yellowjackets.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Falcons will host the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in the WIAC Tournament Championship Game next Saturday at Hunt Arena. Puck drop is set for 2:05pm.
