Ali Krohn extended her hitting streak to nine games as the UW-River Falls softball team split a pair of games against Marietta and Springfield in Kissimmee, Florida.
THE RUNDOWN: GAME 1
Final Score: UW-River Falls: 4, Marietta 3

WHAT HAPPENED
- In one of the closest games this year, UWRF was able to come from behind to win by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Kaia Dorn was the hero; she brought two runs home with a double to put the Falcons ahead for good.
- Marietta took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first. After a walk and a steal to second, Marietta knocked a single to left field and went up 1-0. The next batter added to the lead with a double, putting UWRF behind 2-0.
- After just one hit in the first two innings, UWRF sustained offense in the third. Dorn singled to begin the inning. The bases were eventually loaded with just one out.
- After a foul out, the Falcons got on the board when Emma Steiner reached on an error. UWRF left the bases loaded after a force out at third ended the inning with the Falcons down 2-1.
- After going down in order in the third, Marietta added to their lead in the fourth. With a leadoff walk, Marietta scored an unearned run after an error, pushing the lead to 3-1.
- The top of the sixth was where UWRF made the magic happen. It started with Mady Bunnell reaching on an error, then a single by Shannan Borchardt put two on with no outs.
- After a passed ball advanced the runners, Senour flied out to right field which brought home DoniBrooke Ross, who pinch ran for Bunnell.
- Ali Murray then walked, and advanced to second, making her the go-ahead score in scoring position.
- Dorn then stepped up and made the big hit to left field. Murray and Borchardt were able to come home for UWRF.
- It was then time for the Falcons to come up big on the defensive end with two innings of work still to be done. Griswold finished her sixth inning of work, keeping Marietta off the board.
- Studnicka then came in at the start of the bottom of the seventh for the save. She allowed one single, but the runner did not advance before a fly out and a grounder that secured the win for UWRF.
THE RUNDOWN: GAME 2

WHAT HAPPENED
- Springfield's offense was hard to contain for UWRF. Springfield scored in four of the six innings played, including each of the first three innings.
- Payton Speckel started the game for UWRF. She lasted two and two-third innings before being replaced by Maddie Studnicka and then Carolyn Griswold wrapped it up for the Falcons.
- Springfield scored two runs right away, with two singles to start the game. Both runners would eventually score to make it 2-0.
- The Falcons would have chances in the first inning as well with two Springfield errors. UWRF had runners on second and third with two outs, but were unable to bring anyone home.
- Springfield scored two more in the second, including one run on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0.
- UWRF was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff single by Noelle Senour. Erin Ralph then pitch ran for Senour. Ralph came home on a sacrifice fly by Ali Murray.
IN-DEPTH LOOK
- The Falcons 4-3 victory over Marietta was the first game this year that a UWRF was decided by one run.
- UWRF smacked three doubles in the two games, putting their season total up to 17. Krohn leads the team with five.
- Krohn currently has a hitting streak of nine games. She is batting .484 during that span.
- Griswold pitched six and one-third innings in the two games. She allowed just five hits and three runs in that time earning her second win of the season against Marietta. She also struck out six batters.
THE OPPOSITION
- For Marietta, no batter had more than one hit, but had a pair of doubles from Arianna Barile and Brey Mays.
- Carianna Gasdia was the leader for Springfield. She was 3-4 at the plate with one RBI. Allie Wheeler and Rachel Ball each had two RBIs for Springfield in their victory over UWRF.
LOOKING FORWARD
The Falcons will wrap up their trip to Florida with a pair of games on March 18. UWRF will play Trine University (14-0) at 9 a.m. and Washington and Jefferson College (0-0) at 1:30 p.m. before returning home.
