Box Score 2 Platteville, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls softball team was swept by UW-Platteville by scores of 3-0 and 9-2 in a tough day for the Falcons on the offensive end.
THE RUNDOWN GAME 1

WHAT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers were able to score all three of their runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, then Jess Butzen went to work for UW-Platteville and allowed just three hits over seven innings.
- UWRF had a chance to score in the top of the first. After a single and two walks, UWRF had the bases loaded with two outs. The Falcons were unable to get any runs across home plate with a fly out to right field.
- After getting out of the jam, the Pioneers took control offensively. They scored three runs on three hits with the help of one Falcon error to take a 3-0 lead.
- Over the next three innings, both Butzen of UW-Platteville and Payton Speckel did not allow a hit.
- UWRF broke that trend with a single by Amber Galloway in the top of the fifth. Galloway would reach second, but could not reach home by the end of the inning with UW-Platteville still leading 3-0.
- UW-Platteville loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Speckel was able to get out of the inning with back-to-back clutch strikeouts to keep the score close at 3-0.
- UWRF was not able to put a raly together by the end of the game, finishing with just one hit in the final two innings.
- Speckel finished the game off by pitching all seven innings, with just one of the three runs being earned. She also finished with five strikeouts.

WHAT HAPPENED
- In game two, it was a big third inning that put the Pioneers up 5-0, putting the Falcons in a comeback situation that ultimately fell short despite scattering seven hits in the game.
- UW-Platteville struck first in the bottom of the first. After a two-out triple, Wegner Thianna singled home Tanel Jessy to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the third the Falcons had the bases loaded with no outs, putting them in a prime position to take the lead.
- After the Falcons lined into a double play, Ali Murray walked, loading the bases once more. The next Falcon batter flew out and the Pioneers avoided the big inning by UWRF.
- With momentum on their side, UW-Platteville took advantage. They scored four runs on four hits in the next frame and took a commanding 5-0 lead after three innings.
- With a big deficit, the Falcons stepped up and brought in two big runs in the top of the fourth.
- In a crazy play, Kaia Dorn crushed a two-out triple to left center, and eventually scored on an error by the Pioneer shortstop. Maddie Studnicka also scored on the play from first, bringing the score to 5-2.
- Over the next two innings, neither team could muster much offense, keeping the game at 5-2 going into the final two innings.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers regained their commanding lead highlighted by a Jessy double to left center, scoring two runs from first and second. When the dust settled, the Pioneers finished off the Falcons 9-2.

UWRF will travel to UW-La Crosse next on April 23 to play a doubleheader with the Eagles. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
