Men's Basketball Falls to Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team suffered their second loss in a row as they fell to UW-La Crosse 54-62 on the road Wednesday night.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • It was a battle between the two teams in the first half with a total of six lead changes happening. 
  • The Falcons had their biggest lead at 13:35 when they led by four points after Matt Keller hit a jumper to put them up 12-8.
  • The Eagles went up by five points with 4:27 remaining in the half but Clay Seifert score four points to get the Falcons within one and Julian Jackson and Devin Buckley hit free throws to give the Falcons their last lead of the game. 
  • The Falcons trailed the Eagles 25-29 at the half time break.  The Eagles finished the half with a five point run. 
  • In the second half the Eagles carried a lead from start to finish.  The Falcons got within two points after a five point run at 14:04.
  • The Falcons went on a five point run to again get within two (47-49) with 7:08 remaining in the game.    
  • The Falcons would keep the Eagles within five until the final 14 seconds when the Eagles sank four free throws and secure the win. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Matt Keller led the Falcons with 15 points.  He was 4-9 from the floor and 6-7 from the charity stripe.  He added three rebounds and two steals.
  • Alex Herink had thirteen points on 5-11 shooting.  He was 2-2 at the line and made one three point shot.  He had eight rebounds. 
  • Brennan Witt had double digit rebound picking up 13.  He added seven points and two steals. 
  • As a team, UW-River Falls shot 16-53 (30.2 percent) from the floor. The Falcons were 4-17 (23.5 percent) from the three point line and were 18-23 (78.3 percent) from the line.  

THE OPPOSITION
  • Taulvish McCray and Ben Meinholz each had 14 points.  McCray was 4-9 from the floor and 5-7 at the free throw line.  He had six steals and three rebounds.
  • Meinholz was 6-11 from the floor and 2-2 from beyond the arc.  He added five rebounds and two steals. 
  • The Eagles shot 23-54 (42.6 percent) from the floor and connected on seven threes on 16 attempts in the game.  They were 9-13 from the free throw line.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons fall to 2-3 in WIAC conference play and 11-4 overall.  They look to get back on track as they host UW-Stout at home Saturday.  Tip off for the game will be 5 p.m.
