ASHLAND, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team battled Nothland College Saturday night to an overtime 2-3 loss.
The first period was a quiet first period with neither team scoring. The Falcons only had five shots on goal and Northland only had seven. The Falcons had two power play opportunities.
Aussie Miller got the Falcons on the board first scoring forty three seconds into the second period. The Falcons had the power play opportunity after Northland was called for tripping. He was assisted on the play by
Eddie Matsushima and
Christian Hausinger.
Northland tied it up at 3:59 when Kalib Ford found the back of the net. His goal came on the power play opportunity given when Eddie Matsishima was called two minutes for holding. The Lumber Jacks had another power play opportunity when Matsushima was called for interference.
Miller scored again in the third period giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead with eight minutes remaining in the game. This time he was assisted by
Brandon Bissett and
Christian Hausinger. His goal again was on the power play.
With one and a half minutes remaining in the third period Northland pulled their goalie to give them an extra attacker. It came to their advantage with 44 seconds remaining they tied the game up 2-2 forcing an overtime period. Twenty nine seconds into the overtime Cole Woodliffe made the game winning shot.
The Falcons had 29 shots compared to the Lumbers Jacks 32.
Aussie Miller finished with two goals and four shots on goal. Quinn took the loss with 29 total saves and three goals.
The Falcons will begin WIAC conference play when they travel to UW-Stevens Point Nov. 30
