STEVENS POINT, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team faced off against No. 1 UW-Stevens Point on their home ice Friday night. The Falcons fell 1-3 in their opening WIAC matchup.
It was the Falcons who struck first scoring in the first period at 3:11.
Blake Anderson made an unassisted goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Pointers answered back with a goal of their own by Brennen Miller at the 6:57 mark. Assisting on the play was Steve Quagliata.
The Pointers scored two goals in the second period to break the tie and secure the win. The first goal came at the 6:10 mark when Logan Fredericks found the back of the net. Late in the second period Luke McElhenie increased the Pointer lead to 3-1 when he scored on a pass from Tanner Karly.
Zach Quinn had 26 saves in goal for the Falcons. Pointer goaltender Connor Rychman had 14 saves.
The Falcons host the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 pm at Hunt Arena.
