MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (uwrfsport.com) – Junior forward Eddie Matsushima led the Falcons with 4 goals in a 7-3 rout of Augsburg University on Saturday night.

THE RECAP
First Period

• The Falcons scored first at the 4:37 mark of the first period on an unassisted goal by Aussie Miller.
• A Mike Sauer goal at 11:49 put the Falcons up 2-0. Sauer was assisted by Joe Drapluk and Tim Gelatt.
• A third unanswered goal would put the Falcons up 3-0 at 15:58. The goal was scored by Eddie Matsushima, assisted by Josh Arnold and Peter Karavos.
• Score at the end of the first period: UW-River Falls 3, Augsburg 0

Second Period

• A power play opportunity allowed River Falls to score its fourth unanswered goal just 1:08 into the second period. After an Augsburg hooking penalty, Eddie Matsushima scored his second goal of the game on the shorthanded Auggies. He was assisted by Peter Karavos and josh Arnold.
• Augsburg put its first point on board at 2:56 on a Chandler Madry goal, assisted by Alex Rodriguez and Jason Krych.
• Eddie Matsushima responded with his third goal of the night at 7:03. He was assisted by David Honkanen.
• Immediately following the Falcons fifth goal, the Auggies swapped goalie Daniil Gerasimov for Jon Albers.
• After a holding penalty on Mike Sauer, Eddie Matsushima scored at 12:47 to put the Falcons up 6-1. The goal was the Falcons first and only shorthanded goal of the evening. Matsushima was assisted by Peter Karavos.
• A five minute spearing penalty on Augsburg's Erik Brent gave the Falcons a power play opportunity at 17:19, but they were unable to capitalize before the end of the period. Erik Brent received a 10-game misconduct for his spearing penalty.

Third Period

• The Falcons were still on a power play heading into the third period, and took advantage with an unassisted Cayden Cahil goal to go up 7-1.
• Augsburg responded with their second goal of the night on a score from Lucas Niezelsk, assisted by Matt Hines and Luke Dietsch.
• Back-to-back penalties on the Falcons gave Augsburg a two man advantage at 12:34. The Auggies would go on to score their third goal of the night at 14:00 on a power play goal by Charlie Parker. He was assisted by Luke Dietsch and Jason Krych.
