River Falls, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls Men's hockey team hosted UW-Stout in their last regular season game of the year on Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
Cayden Cahill and
Joe Drapluk scored a goal and added an assist respectively as the Falcons skated to a 2-2 tie in a fast- paced physical hockey game with the UW-Stout Blue Devils.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-STOUT
- The first period saw end to end action with both teams playing good defense and blocking many shots.
- Thomas Clayton got the physical play going early with a huge hit in the Blue Devil zone.
- The Falcons were called for the only penalty in the period when Cayden Cahill was called for tripping. The Falcons killed the penalty off and the first period ended in a scoreless tie.
- Both teams registered 5 shots on goal in the period.
- The second period began with both teams picking things up on the offensive end.
- The Falcons broke the scoreless tie, when Joe Drapluk took a beautiful pass from Cayden Cahill and slipped it past the outstretched pad of the Blue Devil goaltender. The goal was Drapluk's 9th of the season
- The Blue Devils would answer just under 2 minutes later to tie the score at 1, when Dylan Zins beat Zach Quinn.
- Both teams had plenty of chances to break the tie with both teams hitting the post with shots around the five-minute mark of the period.
- The Drapluk, Cahill connection would go to work again for the Falcons late in the second period. This time it was Cahill the recipient of a great setup by Drapluk as he found the back of the net to put the Falcons up 2-1.
- The action went up and down the ice in the third period with both teams picking up the physicality.
- The Blue Devils would score the only goal of the period to tie the game at 2 with just over 9 minutes left in the period.
- Both teams would make a push late with some tense moments late in the period but score remained tied at 2 and the game headed to overtime.
- In the overtime period, the action was at both ends with the Falcons just missing the game winning goal off a deflection in front and the Blue Devils coming right back and hitting the post with a shot from the point.
- Neither team could get the game winner in overtime and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
- Zach Quinn made 22 saves in net for the Falcons.
THE OPPOSITION
- Dylan Zins scored a goal and added an assist for the Blue Devils.
- Tommi Ahlgren made 21 saves in net.
LOOKING AHEAD
The UW-River Falls Men's Hockey will open the WIAC Tournament play next week when the travel to take on UW-Superior in a 2-game series starting next Friday night. The puck drops in Superior, WI at 7 PM.
