Men's Hockey Falls to UW-Superior

River Falls, Wis.  (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls Falcons hosted UW-Superior Yellow Jackets at Hunt Arena on Friday night. The action was fast paced from end to end, but Troy York's hat trick proved to be the difference in a 5-0 Yellowjackets' victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-SUPERIOR
  • Both teams came out flying in the first period with several big hits by both squads.
  • The Falcons controlled the play early outshooting the Yellow Jackets 9 to 2 early on.
  • The physical play came to a head when penalties were assessed to both teams, and the Falcons came out of it with a power play. They were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • UW-Superior got on the scoreboard first as the Falcons were unable to clear the puck out of their zone. Troy York for the Yellowjackets pulled the puck out, and skated into the slot and wristed one past Zach Quinn for a 1-0 lead.
  • A few minutes later Connor Hamonic took a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated in, and wristed one past Quinn for a 2-0 lead.
  • UW-Superior was awarded a power play late in the period. Early in the 2nd period, Troy York would score his 2nd of the game from the high slot for a 3-0 lead.
  • The hitting would continue throughout the period, with both teams being awarded power plays without converting.
  • Late in the 3rd period Troy York would complete the hat trick for the Yellowjackets as he took a pass coming off the bench, and shot it past Quinn to make 4-0.
  • Quinn was pulled for Michael Hughes at this point in the game.
  • The Yellowjackets would complete the scoring as Ryan Carlson would score on the power play from the point for a 5-0 lead.
  • Zach Quinn made 17 saves for the Falcons.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Cole Skinner made 36 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
  • The Yellow Jackets attempted 23 shots on goal.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons return to action tomorrow night as they travel to Menomonie, Wi. to face UW-Stout. The puck drops at 7:00 PM.
