Falcons Fall Late at UWSP

Stevens Point, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Fall Men's Basketball team traveled to take on UW-Stevens Point on Saturday night. The Falcons ended the first half on 12-3 run and took a 2 point lead into halftime at 37-35. In a tightly contested 2nd half the Falcons and Pointers would trade buckets. The game would be tied 5 different times in the 2nd half. The Pointers scored with just 4 seconds left to beat the Falcons 66-64.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded buckets early but the Pointers jumped to an 11 point lead at 23-12 just under the 12 minute mark of the half.
  • The Falcons chipped away at the Pointer lead and went on a 12-3 run to end with 8 points being scored by Alex Herink to give the Falcons the 37-35 lead at halftime.
  • After an early bucket by the Pointers in the 2nd half to tie the game at 37, the Falcons went on an 8-1 run, highlighted with 5 points from Brennan Witt including a dunk to put the Falcons up 44-38.
  • The Pointers made three 3-pointers over the next couple of minutes but Austin Moldenhauer's 3 pointer with just under 10 minutes to go put the Falcons up 56-50.
  • The Pointers scored the next 6 points to tie the game up at 56. Alex Herink would score the next 3 points to give the Falcons the lead only to have the Pointers hit a 3 to tie it up at 59.
  • The Pointers went on a 5-0 run late in the half to take a 64-62 lead with a minute fifteen left in the half.
  • Matt Keller hit a huge jumper to tie the game at 64 with 10 seconds left, but the Pointers answered with a quick layup by Mark Nelson to push their lead to 66-64 with just 4 seconds left.
  • The Falcons last chance fell just short as the final score was 66-64.
