Men's Basketball Falls to UW-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team traveled to Menomonie, Wisconsin to take on UW-Stout on Wednesday night. The Falcons fell in heartbreaking fashion as their last second, half-court shot hit iron and the Blue Devils held on for an 82-81 victory.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons got off to an early 14-7 lead as Alex Herink hit a 3-pointer at 15:42 of the first half.
  • The Blue Devils would rally back to tie the game at 18 after a lay up by Sam Ortmann at 12:36 of the first half.
  • After a back and fourth portion of the game, the Falcons would grab some momentum and obtain a 10 point lead after a Brennan Witt lay up with four minutes to play in the first half.
  • The Blue Devils would chip away at the Falcon lead, getting back to a one possession game at half. Falcons lead 46-43 at the midway point.
  • The Falcons would again increase their lead, this time to 12 points after an Austin Heidecker lay up goes down. 61-49 Falcons.
  • The Blue Devils would battle all the way back to take a 1 point lead following an Isaac Elliot shot from downtown.
  • The Blue Devils would never look back after taking the lead. They would hold their lead an hand the Falcons their 6th conference loss.
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Alex Herink led the Falcons with 22 points and was 4-8 from beyond the arc.
  • Brennan Witt also added 16 points in the Falcons loss.
  • As a team, the Falcons were 29-61 (47.5 percent) from the floor. They made 11 three point shots and were 12-19 from the charity stripe.
 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Issac Elliot led the way for the Blue Devils as he tallied 25 points and was 6-9 from beyond the arc. 
  • Sam Ortmann also contributed 19 points in the Blue Devil victory.
  • The Blue Devils shot 28-54 (51.9 percent) from the field and were 10-13 as a team from the line.
