EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The Falcons scored three power play goals against the No. 3 Blugolds Wednesday night. However, it was not enough as the Blugolds scored three goals in the third period to take the win 5-4.
The Falcons scored two power play goals in the first period to take and early lead. The first came at 5:44 when
Peter Karavos scored on a pass from
Josh Arnold and
Eddie Matsushima.
Cayden Cahill increased the Falcon lead to 2-0 after he scored on the power play opportunity. He was assisted on the play by
Blake Anderson and
Aussie Miller.
In the second period, the Blugolds cut the lead in half with a power play goal that was awarded after
Ryan Gotelaere was called for holding. The Falcons answered back at 14:52 with a power play goal of their own. This time
Aussie Miller found the back of the net after receiving a pass from
Cayden Cahill and
Joe Drapluk. Five minutes later at 19:01, the Blugolds scored their second goal of the period. At second period end, the Falcons led 4-2.
The Blugolds scored their first third period goal at 9:42.
Mike Sauer increased the Falcon lead to 4-3 when he scored at 14:35. The Blugolds tied the game up 4-4 at 14:50 and then took the lead at 16:26 on a power play opportunity that came after
Blake Anderson was called for hooking.
Joe Marcouiller took the loss but had 52 saves. The Falcons were outshot 17-57.
The Falcons fall to 0-2-1 in WIAC play. They will host the No. 1 ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday at Hunt Arena. Puck drop happens at 7:05 p.m.
