Madison, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's tennis team took part in the WIAC Championships this past weekend. The team title is determined by using a combination of the regular-season dual-meet standings and the WIAC Championship results. The Falcons finished tied for 6
th overall.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Isabella Kranz took part in the number one singles tournament as the fifth seed. In her first match, she fell to fourth seeded Alyssa Leffler of UW-Oshkosh, 0-6, 0-2.
- Kranz had a bye the second round.
- Kranz then played in the fifth place match against sixth seeded Barbara Covek of UW-Stevens Point. Kranz lost the match, 2-6, 4-6.
- In the number two singles, Olivia Watzke (5th seed) fell 3-6 and 1-6 in her first match against Maura Anderson (4th seed) of UW- La Crosse. She had a bye the second round. Watzke was defeated in the fifth place match against Emily Cooper of UW-Eau Claire, 6-7, 0-6.
- Kailey Courteau took part in the number three singles for UWRF as the sixth seed. She was defeated in round one by Kellie Hierl (3rd seed) of UW-La Crosse, 1-6 and 2-6. In the second round, she was defeated by seventh seeded Elizabeth Wentzel of UW-Stout, 6-7, 1-6.
- The Falcons had Gabby Potthoff (5th seed) take part in the number four singles tournament. Falling 4-6 and 1-6 in the first round to Michelle Spicer (4th seed) of UW-Oshkosh, she advanced to take on seventh seeded Kennedy Kleist of UW-Stout in the fifth place match after a second round bye. Haglund was downed in straight sets 5-7 and 1-6.
- River Falls' Abbie Reed (5th seed) fell in her first match to fourth seeded Lesley Kutnink of UW-Oshkosh, 1-6, 2-6. After a second round bye, Reed was defeated in the fifth place match by Alison Bognar (6th seed) of UW-Stevens Point, 1-6, 0-6.
- In the final singles tournament, Karyn Duddeck took part as the fourth seed. In the first round she was defeated by fifth seeded Anna Dobbe of UW-Stevens Point in straight sets, 4-6, 0-6. In the second round, Duddeck advanced via a bye to the fifth place match. In that match, she was defeated by sixth seeded Taylor Johnson of UW-Oshkosh in straight sets 2-6, 0-6.
- In the doubles tournaments, the Falcons got a fourth place finish by the number three team of Gabby Potthoff and Abbie Reed, seeded fifth. They defeated UW-Oshkosh (4th seed) in the first round, 8-4. In the second round, they were defeated by first seeded UW-Whitewater 2-8, sending them to the third place match. Facing the third seeded number three team from UW-La Crosse, the Falcon duo were unable to obtain the third place finish with a 0-8 set loss.
- Isabella Kranz was named the UW-River Falls representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
THE OPPOSITION
- UW-Whitewater obtained the 2019 overall team championship with a total of 21 points, UW-Eau Claire finished second with 18, and UW-La Crosse was third with 15 points.
- Winning the number one singles tournament was Natalie Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire with a straight set championship victory over Kimberly Steinert (LC).
- Wijesinghe also took part in the number one doubles championship with her partner Emily Cooper as the number three seed. They defeated the number four team from UW-Oshkosh 8-2 in the championship.
