Falcons Soar Past Franklin College

WHEATON, Ill. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team soared in an 89-65 victory over Franklin College at the Lee Pfund Classic hosted by  Wheaton college.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons shot 57 percent in the first half, hitting 17 of 30 shots.  Ross Ingersoll went 7-7, 3-3 from beyond the arc, claiming 17 total first half points.  Jack Stensgard added 12 points to the teams 41 first half points.
  • The Falcons started the game with an 8-0 run with Stensgard and Matt Keller each hitting a three-pointer. They ended the half with an 11-0 run, including two three-pointers from Ingersoll. 
  • Stensgard pllayed 19 minutes in the first half.  Keller and Noah Hanson each played 17 first half minutes.
  • UWRF went into half time with a 10 point lead, 41-31.
  • The Falcons shot 64 percent in the second half (16-25), including 12-15 from the free throw line.  Keller made all six of his free throw attempts in the half.
  • River Falls went on another 8-0 run around the midpoint of the second half, as well as ending the game on an 8-0 run.
  • Overall the Falcons scored 24 points off turnovers.  Their bench also contributed 27 points, 21 coming in the first half.
  • River Falls once again dominated in points in the paint, outscoring Franklin 40-14.
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Jack Stensgard was the team's high scorer, finishing with 23.  Ross Ingersoll contributed 19 points to the contest.  Matt Keller finished with 14 points.
  • As a team, the Falcons shot 60 percent from the floor, 45 percent from long range, and 81 percent from the free throw line.

THE OPPOSITION
  • Matt Krause had 26 points, leading Franklin College.  He hit 7-10 from the floor, including six three-pointers
  • As a team, Franklin shot 20-50 (40 percent) from the floor, and 9-22 (40.9 percent) from distance.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will continue play at the Lee Pfund Classic on Saturday, Nov. 16.against host team Wheaton College.
