Softball Splits With No. 8 Coe College

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's softball team split with No. 8 Coe College Sunday afternoon.  In game one, the Falcons fell 1-5 but bounced back in game two shutting out the Kohawks and giving them their first loss of the season. 
 
THE RUNDOWN GAME 1 vs COE
Final Score: UW-River Falls 1, Coe 5
Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Records: UWRF 1-4, Coe College 14-0.

WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME 1
  • Coe started off the first inning with a double and then drove in a run on two groundouts.
  • Payton Speckel shut the Kohawks down with back to back strikeouts looking. 
  • Kaia Dorn started out the second inning with a bunt single and then was sacrificed over to second base.  She stole third base but was left stranded on third.
  • The Falcon defense kept Coe off the board in the second inning after letting the first batter get on base via a walk.  Noelle Senour connected with Ali Krohn to get a runner out at two trying to steal second. 
  • The Kohawks scored another run in the bottom of the third after the leadoff hitter got on with a single through the left side. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Coe scored two more runs to take a 5-0 lead.
  • The Falcons scored a lone run in the top of the 7th when Lexi Dupee reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. 
  • Natalie Bosch pinch hit for Sami Thompson and hit a double to left field to score Dupee.

WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME 2
  • The Falcons scored the lone run of the game in the third inning.  Kaia Dorn tripled to center field and Molly Kaspar brought her in on a sacrifice fly to center field. 
  • The Falcons got within striking distance in the fourth inning when Lexi Dupee started out the inning with a single.  With two outs, Karina Monson walked to put runners on first and second and Rebecca Daley reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to load the bases.  Kaia Dorn grounded out to second base to leave three runners on base. 
  • Coe started out the bottom of the sixth inning with a double and then a walk before the Falcon defense shut them down, stranding two runners. 
  • Coe again started out the inning with a hit and a walk before Corinne Roe struck out a batter and forced the hitters to ground out and fly out to end the game.
  • Hannah Stegeman got the win and Corinne Roe earned her first collegiate save. 
  • Kaspar went 2 for 4 from the plate with an RBI.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will travel to Clermont, Florida, for the Spring Games.  The Falcons will play ten games during the week.  First game will be Sunday March 24th again MN-Morris.
