Falcons Score 19 in Win over Willamette

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - UW-River Falls built an early 6-0 lead in the opening ten minutes to cruise to a 19-3 victory over Willamette University in Georgetown, Tex. Emma Moonen and Sophia Leong each had four goals for the Falcons, while eight different players had assists in the team's largest margin of victory this season.

Leong and Reilly Springman each scored a pair of goals in the opening five minutes to take a 4-0 advantage, and Emma Kohlbeck made it 6-0 with 21:04 remaining. Neither team scored for over 10 minutes before Laura Kelly got on the board for the Bearcats with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Springman scored a free position goal with just over eight minutes left, and Leong finished off a goal from Grace Ross in the final 30 seconds of the half to take an 8-1 advantage into the break. UWRF was successful on two of their three free position attempts and had twice as many shots as the Bearcats.

Moonen dominated the beginning of the second half with three goals in the first seven minutes, with her final goal coming after two yellow cards from Willamette put the Falcons a man up for her fourth goal of the afternoon. Springman and Lexy Meinert both also had hat tricks on Wednesday, with Meinert's coming entirely in the second half to help put UWRF up 19-2 with over eight minutes remaining before the Bearcats scored a final goal in the 16-goal victory for the Falcons.

The Falcons had a 17-4 advantage on shots in the second half for a 33-12 advantage overall. The Bearcats had four more yellow cards than the Falcons for five total. Gina Jablonski led the team with five draw controls, and Nicole Swanson had a game-high five ground ball pickups.

UWRF is now 3-4 this season and will face Southwestern University at 5 p.m. tomorrow night in Texas.
