Falcons Fall Short to La Crosse in Conference Opener

La Crosse, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls Softball team fell shy to La Crosse in WIAC Conference opener.  
 
THE RUNDOWN GAME 1 vs UWL
Final Score: UW-River Falls 2 UWL 6
Location: La Crosse, Wis.
Records: UWRF 6-13, 0-1 WIAC, UWL 14-9, 2-1 WIAC

WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME 1
  • The game went scoreless and hitless for the first two full innings.  The Falcons broke that streak with a solo homerun by Hannah Theobald, her 2nd of the season. 
  • The Falcons added a run in the top of the 4th inning off a solo homerun by Lexi Dupee, her first of the season.
  • La Crosse responded in the bottom of the 4th inning with 3 runs off 3 hits, and 2 errors by the Falcons. 
  • The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the 5th, off two hits.
  • The remainder of the game went hitless and scoreless for both squads.

Records: UWRF 6-14, 0-2 WIAC, UWL 15-9, 3-1 WIAC

WHAT HAPPENED IN GAME 2
  • Kaia Dorn for the Falcons lead off the game with a single to left field, advanced to 2nd on a SAC bunt by Hannah Theobald, but was left on base. 
  • In the top of the 3rd inning, the Falcons got on the board with one run off three hits.  Dorn doubled, stole third, and scored on an RBI single by Theobald. Molly Kaspar also singled in the inning. 
  • The Falcons added one more run in the top of the 4th inning off a lead off single to right field by Lexi Dupee.  Dupee advanced to second on a SAC bunt by Ali Krohn and scored following back to back singles by Tayler Fall and Karina Monson. 
  • La Crosse answered in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits, including a 3-run homerun by Radewan. 
  • River Falls responded with one run in each the 5th and 6th innings, both being unearned. 
  • The Eagles added two runs on two hits in the bottom of the 5th inning. 
  • The Falcons gave themselves a fighting chance in the top of the 7th inning as Kaspar lead off with a single to left field and was sacrificed to second base by Allison Kondzela.  Kaspar eventually advanced to third, but unfortunately would get no further.
  • The Falcons ended with 4 runs off 10 hits, while the Eagles ended with 5 runs on 9 hits.

The Falcons will face UW-Whitewater this weekend, April 13, in their home opener.  Game time 1 p.m.
