Falcons Take Down WIAC Leader

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls men's basketball hosted UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon.  In an absolute team effort, the Falcons defeated the conference leader 74-68

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons made 17-30 (56.7 percent) field goals in the first half, including 4-9 from behind the arc.  Jack Stensgard led the Falcons in the first half with 11 points, shooting 4-5 from the floor and hitting 2-3 from three point.
  • The Falcons scored 18 points off the bench in the first half, 22 total for the game.
  • UWRF went into halftime trailing by just one, 40-41.
  • The Falcons shot 42.3 percent from the field in the second half (11-26), hitting 2-10 from behind the arc.  As a team, they made 10-12 from the free throw line.
  • Austin Werdin led the Falcons in the second half, scoring 12 on 4-5 shooting, including 2-2 from three.
  • River Falls scored 38 points in the paint on the night, 16 coming in the second half.
  • The Falcons scored 17 points off of turnovers overall, capitalizing on 11 Pioneer turnovers.
  • UWRF had four 2nd chance points in the second half, eight in the game, off six offensive rebounds.
  • The Falcons finished with 26 rebounds and five steals on the night.
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Stensgard was the team's high scorer finishing with 18 points off of 7-15 shooting.  He also recorded three assists.
  • Werdin finished the game with 16 points.  Alex Ohde finished the game with 11 points off the bench.
  • Overall the Falcons went 28-56 from the floor (50 percent), 6-19 of three-pointers (31.6 percent), and 12-16 from the free throw line (75 percent). 
THE OPPOSITION
  • Justin Stovall led the Pioneers with 21 points, shooting 9-11 from the floor.
  • Overall Platteville finished the game shooting 28-64 (43.8 percent) from the field, 6-24 (25 percent) from behind the arc, and 6-8 (75 percent) from the free throw line.
