MANKATO, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls softball team started their 2020 season with a double-header against Bethany Lutheran College at the MSU Dome in Mankato. The Falcons fell to the Vikings in both games.

WHAT HAPPENED AGAINST BETHANY LUTHERAN
- The Falcons jumped to an early lead in the 2nd inning, scoring three runs on the Vikings. River Falls lead off the inning with a walk by Chapin Rappaport, followed by a single by Natalie Bosch. After Sammie Harms drew a walk, Sami Thompson grounded out, but recorded the RBI when Rappaport scored. Bosch also scored on a groundout RBI by Rebecca Daley. Harms then scored on an RBI single by Grace Peterson.
- The Vikings answered back in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits, all singles.
- Bethany Lutheran added 5 more runs in the bottom of the 4th on 5 hits, including a double and a triple.
- UWRF added another run in the top of the 5th. Molly Kaspar started the inning off with a double and immediately scored on a single by Allison Kondzela. Kondzela stole second, but was left on base as the inning ended three up, three down.
- Bethany Lutheran scored two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, off three singles.
- Game 1 finished by the 8-run rule.
- The Falcons finished the game with 4 runs on 8 hits and committed 2 errors.
- Overall, seven different players recorded hits for the Falcons in the game.

WHAT HAPPENED AGAINST BETHANY LUTHERAN
- Bethany Lutheran jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 1 run on 2 hits.
- The Falcons responded in the top of the 2nd, scoring 1 run on 2 hits, including a double by Megan Halvorson, followed by an RBI single by Rebecca Daley.
- The Vikings scored 3 more in the bottom of the 2nd off 3 hits, including 2 singles and a double.
- River Falls chipped away over the next four innings, scoring 1 run in each the 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings, off five hits total. Allison Kondzela doubled in the 3rd; Bri Daechsel singled. Kondzela also singled in the 5th. Lindsey Strom and Halvorson both singled in the 6th inning.
- Bethany Lutheran rallied in the bottom of the 6th, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits, both singles, putting the Vikings on top.
- The Falcons finished the game with 4 runs on 9 hits.
