Falcons Score 22 in Season Opener

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons cruised to a 22-4 win over Wartburg College in the home opener.  UW-River Falls built an 8-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.  Emily Herdine scored a hat trick in those opening minutes.  Herdine finished the game with five goals for the Falcons.  Emma Kohlbeck had four goals and five assists on the night.  Overall, the Falcons had nine different players score a goal.  Goalie Ashley Olson got the win for the Falcons.  

Aside from Herdine's three goals, five other Falcons contributed to the eight goals in the opening eight minutes.  Of those, Emma Kohlbeck scored two, as well as recording two assists.  Wartburg got on the board around the nine minute mark, scoring off a free position attempt.  River Falls came back and scored two more unassisted goals in 35 seconds.  The Falcons out-shot the Knights 32-6 in the first half.  Going into halftime, UWRF led 15-2.

River Falls scored the first four goals of the second half; Herdine scoring two, both assisted by Kohlbeck.  The Knights scored two unassisted goals, both coming from free position attempts, midway through the second half.  The Falcons tacked on two more goals to finish out the game.  UWRF had 11 shots on goal in the second half.

The Falcons finished the game with 49 shots, The also recorded 11-12 successful clears. 

Looking Ahead
The Falcons will be on the road on Friday, March 6, taking on Carthage College.  Game time is 4pm.
