THE SERIES
This weekend's contests will mark the 15th and 16th all-time meetings between UW-River Falls and Finlandia, with the Falcons holding a 13-1 series advantage.
The two teams last met during the 2019-20 season opener in River Falls. The Falcons swept the Lions with 3-2 and 5-1 victories. Five of UWRF's eight goals came on the power play.
FALCONS PICKED THIRD IN WIAC PRESEASON POLL
Coming off a 6-3-1 record during the condensed 2020-21 season, UWRF went unbeaten during its final three games of last season to secure the No. 1 seed for the WIAC Commissioner's Cup. However, its semifinal matchup versus UW-Superior was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols and WIAC was voted to finish third in this year's standings. UW-Eau Claire was selected to finish atop of the conference.
The Falcons return 19 letterwinners from last year's roster, including All-Conference goaltender
Dean Buchholz (So., Dearborn Heights, Mich.) and 2021 WIAC Newcomer of the Year,
Vilho Saariluoma (So., Helsinki, Finland).
