HANCOCK, Mich. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated Finlandia University 4-1 during the series finale Saturday afternoon, earning a non-conference series sweep.
The Falcons, now 2-0 overall, scored in each period, including two in the first and one on the man advantage. UWRF out-shot Finlandia 32-11.
Sam Anzai and
Caleb Anderson gave the Falcons a quick lead with power play goals, scoring within a minute of each other to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead just under three minutes into the game.
Anzai's goal was assisted by
Gabe Wahl and
Alex Davis. Anderson's first goal as a Falcon was helped by
Cayden Cahill and
Vilho Saariluoma - who each recorded multi-point games.
The Lions' sole tally on the night came on the power play, trimming the Falcon lead to 2-1 not long after Anderson's goal. Finlandia was 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Falcons went 2-for-6.
UWRF scored one goal in each the second and third period. Cahill's first of the season in the second period was assisted by
Noah Ganske - his second helper in as many games. The Falcons took a 3-1 lead into the final frame.
Saariluoma gave the Falcons a three-goal cushion early in the third period, assisted by
Noah Roofe and Cahill.
Dysen Skinner made the start in goal and earned the win, making 10 saves.
The Falcons have another non-conference road series next weekend at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
