STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls football team earned a 56-20 road WIAC win at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC, excelled on the ground with a season-high 305 rushing yards.
Senior running back
Luke Fugate led the Falcon offense, rushing for a career-high 169 yards with three touchdowns on the ground and one through the air.
Seven of the eight UWRF scores came on the ground, three each from Fugate and
Kole Hinrichsen, and one from
Kaleb Blaha.
The Falcon defense was also efficient on the ground, limiting UWSP to 65 rushing yards. UWRF led in total offensive yards, 583 to the Pointers' 325. UWRF was 12-of-16 on third down conversions and held UWSP to a rate of 4/12. In eight red zone opportunities, the Falcons finished on seven.
After leading 14-7 after the first frame, the UWRF offense scored three times in the second quarter to earn a 35-7 halftime lead. The Falcons added another three touchdowns in the second half while the Pointers scored twice.
Hinrichsen completed 24 of 31 passes for 252 yards, including seven completions to
Andy Groebner.
Defensively,
Nate Fesenmaier led the Falcons with six tackles, two for loss.
Cade Henry was 8-for-8 on PAT attempts.
UWRF travels to UW-Eau Claire next Saturday, Oct. 16.
