Men's Hoops opens WIAC at Stout and Platteville

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team opens its 2021-22 WIAC schedule this week on the road, traveling to UW-Stout on Wednesday before facing No. 4-ranked UW-Platteville on Saturday.

HANSON EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
Senior guard Noah Hanson helped lead the Falcons to three wins last week, averaging 25.7 points per game and shot 23-of-44 from the field, 15-of-33 from three-point range, and 16-of-20 at the free throw line. Versus the University of Northwestern on Nov. 23, he scored a career-high 34 points, matching the most points by a Falcon since 2016. In addition, he collected 5.7 rebounds per game and six steals.

For his efforts, he was selected as the WIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week and the Royal Credit Union Male Falcon of the Week.

FALCON NOTES
  • The Falcons are riding a three-game winning streak, defeating Northwestern, East Texas Baptist, and Howard Payne last week.
    • Through three games, senior guard Noah Hanson led the Falcons with 25.7 points per game. Versus Northwestern, he tallied a career-high 34 points, matching the most points by a Falcon since 2016.
  • Freshman center Rodrick Payne averaged 14.5 points per game off 12-19 shooting over the weekend, and was awarded a spot on the Nebraska Wesleyan Snyder Classic All-Tournament Team.
  • During Saturday's win over Howard Payne, Jeff Berkhof collected his 200th career win in his 16th season as the Falcons' head coach. He follows only his predecessor, Rick Bowen, in coaching victories at UW-River Falls.
  • Noah Hanson is the second-leading scorer in the WIAC, averaging 18.7 points per game. He's scored in double figures in all but one game this season.
