MOORHEAD, Minn. – After a 2-2 draw the night before the UW-River Falls men's hockey team came back with a 5-3 win over Concordia-Moorhead Saturday afternoon.
It was the Cobbers who struck first scoring at 3:26 in the first period. The lead did not last long as forty seconds later
Gabe Wahl scored on a pass from
Sam Anzai to tie it up 1-1.
The Falcons got into some penalty trouble with
Vilho Saariluoma being called for cross checking and
Brock Draeger being called for interference. With two Falcons in the penalty box the Cobbers took advantage of the power play opportunity scoring two back-to-back power play goals and leading 3-1.
Josh Martin scored the Falcons second goal of the first period at 12:12. Assisting him on the goal was
Caleb Anderson and
Gabe Wahl. At the end of the first period, the Cobbers led 3-2.
Alex Davis wasted no time scoring a goal at 1:20 in the second period to tie the game up 3-3. Assisting him on the goal was
Vilho Saariluoma and
Chase Davidson.
Cayden Cahill gave the Falcons the 4-3 lead at 8:20 in the second after scoring on a Saariluoma pass.
Caleb Anderson scored the final goal of the afternoon at 16:23 increasing the Falcons lead to 5-3. The goal came twenty-three seconds into the power play opportunity. The Cobbers were previously called for interference.
The Falcons outshot Concordia 21-18.
Dysen Skinner got the win in goal collecting 15 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The Falcons look ahead to a nonconference game against Hamline University on Friday, November 12. The Falcons host the visiting Pipers in a matchup that will begin at 7:05 at Hunt Arena.
