After a dominating week one of the season, the UW-River Falls women's hockey team continued their winning ways, taking down UW - Stevens Point 4 - 1, moving them to 3 - 0 on the season.
The Falcons began the scoring within the first 5 minutes of the game with Sam Young finding the net on an assist by Sophia Leong. The period ended with both teams picking up some penalties, but neither team able to make their opponent pay for them.
Up 1-0 in the second period, the Falcons' Callie Hoff punched in a goal at 4:29 with an assist from Alex Hantge. Then, after a penalty from the Pointers' Lauren Wincentsen for checking, the Falcons took advantage of the power play opportunity as Abigail Stow lit the lamp off an assist by Holly Eckers at 18:32. The 3-0 lead at the end of the second period would prove to be enough, but there was still more action to come.
In the third period, the tandem of Hoff and Hantge linked up again for their second goal and assist on the night, respectively. The Falcons gave up a late power play goal, but that was the only true blemish in the 4-1 victory. In total, the Falcons domination of the game was highlight with their 51 shots on goal, the third straight game with the Falcons recording at least that many attempts on goal.
The team will compete again with UW-Stevens Point on Friday, February 12 at 7:05 pm, this time on the road.
