Though they had a slow start out of the gates, the Falcons pushed through and found their stride, pulling away from UW-Eau Claire in a 78-58 victory.
The Blugolds got things going early, opening the game on an 8-0 run before Falcon's forward Austin Werdin made a layup at the 18:04 mark. The Falcons started to slowly gain momentum thanks in large part to the offensive work of Alex Ohde, but it wasn't until a free throw from Gunner Reed that UW-RF was able to tie things up at 21. The rest of the first half finished with multiple lead changes, but it was Werdin who ended it with a three-pointer that saw the Falcons leading 31 - 29 at halftime.
The second half proved the Falcons hot shooting wasn't going to cool off anytime soon. After scoring the first seven points in the half, the Falcons built their lead to a substantial 38 - 20 at just a minute and a half in. After that, the lead never got into single digits and the Falcons were able to coast to the finish line, shooting a blistering 60% from the field in the second half.
Ohde put together a dynamic performance, recording a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to go along with his game high five assists. Werdin chipped in 18 points of his own, while Noah Hanson and Jack Stensgard both scored 13 points each.
The Falcons move to 3-2 on the season and will contend again with UW - Eau Claire on Friday, February 19 at 7 pm on the road.
