In a physical and aggressive game from the first puck drop, the UW-River Falls men's hockey team was able to take advantage of their power play opportunities and took down visiting Northland College by a score of 3-1.
After a scoreless first period, Falcons senior Charlie Singerhouse was the first to find the net, scoring on a power play with assists going to senior Cayden Cahill and freshman Vilho Saariluoma at 5:59 in the second. Cahill found his opportunity to light the lamp himself at 18:59 in the second off the saucer pass from Saariluoma, putting the Falcons up 2-0 after two stanzas.
The Lumber Jacks scored just sixteen seconds into the third period in an attempt to get back into the game, but the Falcons capitalized on another power play opportunity, this time by senior Christian Hausinger, unassisted at 7:48 in the third to seal the win for the Falcons.
The Falcons dominated the ice, outshooting the Lumber Jacks 48 to 6 for shots on goal. Though he wasn't tested much, freshman goaltender Dean Buchholz got credit for the win, increasing his win loss record to 2-1 on the year.
The Falcons improve to 3-2 on the season and have won two in a row.. Their next game will be on the road Friday February, 19 as they head to Northland College.
