The UW-River Falls Men's hockey team took on UW-Superior on Wednesday night at Hunt Arena in what turned out to be a heated battle, one that the visitors ultimately won 2-1.

After a mostly benign first period, both teams started cranking up the intensity in the second period. The two teams combined for seven penalties in the period, and it was the Falcons who would suffer the most because of them. After an interference call on Chase Daivdson, the Yellowjackets' Dylan Johnson punched in the power play goal at 16:37. Then, with under a minute left until the horn, Will Blake of UW-Superior slide another one across the line to put the visitors up 2-0.

Going into the third period being down 2-0 and everything to play for, the Falcons found a fire lit under them as Josh Arnold punched in a goal for the Falcons just 1:16 into the third. From there things only got more intense as both teams saw two players each sent to the penalty box for unsportsmanlike conduct after a skirmish at 6:33. UW-RF had their opportunities, including another power play chance, but none of the nine shots on target in the final stanza were able to hit the net and the team fell 2-1.

The Falcons racked up a total of 9 penalties on the night and freshman goaltender Dean Buchholz recorded 18 saves. The loss drops the Falcons to 4-3 on the season and in the WIAC.

These two teams will play again at UW-Superior on Friday February, 26th. Puck is set to drop at 7:05
