Box Score Determined to make up for the 2-1 loss to the same opponent on Wednesday, the men's hockey team of UW-River Falls got the job done at UW-Superior Friday night, earning an impressive 4-2 win.
The Yellow Jackets were first to strike on the night scoring at 5:08 in the first period. The Falcons, however, kept looking for their opportunity and it came at 8:41 in the first period when Cayden Cahill found the net on a power play goal. Cahill was assisted by Vilho Saariluma and Charlie Signerhouse. As the first period continued, the Yellow Jackets got into more penalty trouble, picking up a 2 minute minor for hooking. Just 13 seconds into the power play, Saariluma found his opportunity and lit the lamp as Peter Karavos and Christian Hausinger tag teamed on the assist.
As the game moved into the second period, the Falcons were not content to sit on their one goal lead. After another Yellow Jacket penalty, Saariluma capitalized yet again on the power play opportunity, scoring at 4:07. Saariluma was once again assisted by Karavos.
Moving into the final period, Josh Arnold solidified the win for the Falcons scoring on a five-hole goal at 8:00 in the third unassisted. UW-Superior added a late goal, but that was nothing more than window dressing as the Falcons controlled throughout in the 4-2 victory.
The Falcons dominance on the ice could be seen in their 40-24 edge in face offs as well in total number of blocked shots 11-4. Dysen Skinner got the win on the night having a total of 27 saves.
UW-RF improves their record to 5-3 on the season. Their next game will be on the road as they travel to UW- Eau Claire on Wednesday March, 3rd for a 7:00pm puck drop.
