Men’s Hockey Falls in Season Opener on the Road

A second period surge wasn't enough as the Falcons drop their season opener

The UW-River Falls men's hockey team was unable to overcome a 2-0 1st period deficit on the road and ultimately fell to UW-Stout by a score of 5-1 in both team's season opener.

During the first period, UW-Stout scored two goals in a seven-minute span, a lead that the Falcons could never overcome. UWRF had several opportunities on two power play chances in the period but they were unable to convert.

In the second period, Falcons senior Christian Hasinger found some room to punch in a power play goal, scoring the Falcons first goal of the night at 1:24 in the period off an assist from Vilho Saariluoma.The goal gave the team some new steam, but UW-Stout was able to respond next with a power power play goal of their own nine minutes later.

The third period saw the Falcons sell out to close the gap, but the Blue Devils gained two more goals at 6:32 and 12:14. At the final horn, the Falcons fell 5-1.

Despite the loss, freshman goaltender Dysen Skinner came up with 26 saves in his Falcon debut, an impressive start to his career for the Billings, Montana native.
The next game for the Falcons with be round two with the Blue Devils on Friday, Feb 5th in River Falls. Puck drops at 7:05pm.
