After dropping their season opener two days ago to the same opponent, the UW-River Falls men's hockey team made a turn around to gain their first win of the season, a 4-1 victory over the Blue Devils. Freshman goaltender
Dean Buchholz was stellar once again,tallying 30 saves for the night and give the Falcons the defensive backing they needed in the win.
The Falcons stuck first on the night scoring at 8:45 in the first period on a nice goal by Peter Grydahl with an assist going to
Brock Draeger. Stout however tied the game 1-1 after a goal from Alex Struckert at 10:59 in the second. That goal would prove to be the last for Stout.
Joel Frazee of the Falcons found his opportunity to light the lamp for the only goal in the second period at 5:26, putting the Falcons ahead heading into the third period with a 2-1 lead.
Christian Hausinger was next find the back netting, scoring at 4:13 in the third from an assist by
Cayden Cahill. With Stout in desperating mode and pulling the goalie,
Noah Roofe scored on a shorthanded empty net at 18:56 off a pass from
Peter Grytdahl to seal the win for UWRF with a final score of 4-1.
The Men's hockey team goes to 1-1 for the season and 1-1 in the WIAC. The Falcons next game will be at home against the Pointers of Stevens Point on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:05.
