After last week's doubleheader split, the Falcons of UW-River Falls were ready for another back-to-back matchup on Friday afternoon, this time against the Cougars of University of Minnesota- Morris.
Game 1
Game one of the doubleheader started with a bang when freshman Johanna Breyen rocked the ball all the way to the center field to start the game with a leadoff triple. Senior Becca Daley was next up and grounded out to short, but gain an RBI by bringing Breyen home. The next few innings had solid defense by both teams until the top of the 4th.
Lindsey Strom got the rally going for the Falcons, drilling a single to center field. Chapin Rappaport then was able to reach on a fielder's choice with Strom being out at second. Rappaport was able to make her way to second on a ground out by senior Allison Kondzela, then Bri Daechsel doubled to center field gaining an RBI and bringing Rappaport home. The next batter was Sami Harms and she reached on an error which brought Daechsel home, but that was not the end for the Falcons.
Once again Breyen was up and singled to center field moving Harms to second. Daley got her opportunity at the plate once again and reached on a fielding error, moving Harms into score before the final out of the inning was made.
The Falcons were able to hold of the Cougars the rest of the game finishing with a final score of 4-0.
Sophomore Juliana Reynolds got yet another win under her belt, bringing her overall record to 2-2 and only allowing two hits for the day.
Game 2
Game two brought about a livelier Cougars offense. U of M- Morris was able to quickly run two scores across the board in the first inning. However, the Falcons found their opportunity to run the bases in the bottom of the third.
Breyen hit yet another bomb to center field which landed her at second base, then was able to steel third on the next pitch. After a walk and pop up, freshman Keegan Piton grounded out to the third basemen but not before she picked up the RBI and brought Breyen home to cut the score 2-1.
Into the next few innings, the Falcons threatened a few times at the plate but ultimately weren't able to push anymore runs across the plate, falling in game two by a finally score of 2-1.
After the split, the Falcons bring their record to 4-4 on the season. Their next game will be their home opener on Wednesday, March 24th when they take on Saint Mary's University for a doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 2pm.
