After being off for two weeks due to game cancelations, the Falcons of UW-River Falls were able to once again take the field on the road Thursday against the Eagles of UW-La Crosse.
Game 1
Game one was a slow start for the Falcons. In the first two innings, the Eagles were able to send a few baserunners across the plate to have to lead going into the 3rd. Megan Halvorson got things going for the Falcons as she hit a bomb over the left field fence to cut the lead to 2-1.
After that, Sammie Harms reached first after being hit by a pitch. Johanna Breyen kept things rolling smashing a single to right field to advance Harms to second. Senior Rebecca Daley put down a sacrifice bunt to advance both Harms and Breyen. After a fielding error by the center fielder, both Harms and Breyen were about to score. However, these runs would prove to be the last for the Falcons.
During the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles were able to run five scores across the board to bring the final score to 7-3.
Game 2
In game two, the Falcons were able to hold off the Eagles until the bottom of the 3rd when they were able to run three scores across on board. The Falcons were able to fight back to gain one run in the top of the 4th, but the Eagles were able to match that in their half of the inning to increase their lead to 4-1.
Not content to go away quietly, the Falcons got their offense going a bit in the 5th. Harms singled to left and close behind her was Breyen who drilled a single to right field to advance Harms. Both Harms and Breyen were able to advance on a wild pitch, then freshman Keegan Piton smacked the ball all the way to right center to gain two RBI's and bring the Falcons within one run.
That would not be the end of the scoring for the Falcons. Bri Daechsel singled to left field and advanced Piton to second. Piton and Daechsel were about to advance on Karina Monson's single. Chapin Rappaport then singled to gain an RBI as she brought Piton home and tied things up at 4-4.
Unfortunately for UW-RF, the Eagles were able to tack on four more runs in the final few innings to bring the final score to 8-4.
With the two losses, the Falcons record now sits at 4-6. Their next game will be on the road when they travel to UW- Eau Claire on Saturday, April 10th for a doubleheader.
